Some Strategies for Good Assignments and Activities

• Emphasize the interplay among graphical, numerical, and analytical approaches.
• Take students step by step through an interesting mathematical situation.
• Generate some nontrivial pictures or data and ask students to explain from a more theoretical perspective what is going on.
• Have students explore a defined problem and describe their analyses and conjectures.
• Have students prove a result suggested by study of an example.
