Please use the dark colored Windows 2000 machines when possible. If
not, then the three NT 4.0 PC's. The username and password are on the
whiteboard in front of the room.
Most datafiles are located below one of the following directories:
C:Program FilesData Desk 6.1Math 171 Extra
C:Program FilesData Desk 6.1Datafiles
Please do not choose ``Save Datafile'' in this location - you will
either run into a file protection error or be
complicating things for the next student using the
computer.
Please do choose ``Save Datafile as'' to save your work either
on a floppy disk, below C:tmp or C:users.
You are welcome to create a temporary folder with your
name or initials there. The Windows 2000 machines also have 250 Mb zip drives.
DataDesk assignments are usually handed in as printed layouts
from DataDesk (created from under the menu entry Data New)
or printed Microsoft Word Files. Graphs and summaries
within DataDesk can be copied and pasted as pictures into either of
these possibilities. If you bring a floppy disk, you can also
take a Word file containing your pictures home to work on the writeup
further.
To avoid wasting paper, please
do not print non-layout windows from DataDesk. Please also try to minimize
the printing of blank pages from layouts.
Moderate length help on DataDesk is available at the website:
Manuals (for use in the lab only) are in the lab bookcase where they
can be checked out from lab consultants.
There are Read Only copies of most Math 171 Extra datafiles in
the directory
C:ReserveMath 171 Extra
You should be able to copy a fresh file from there if the ones
below DataDesk 6.1 become corrupted.
Mathlab consultants will know something about the
program DataDesk but not necessarily statistics in general. So
if you come in at other than recitation times, please don't
count on consultants to be able to explain your assignments
to you. Recitations will be a much better time for those
explanations.
